Handloom SMEs from Batticaloa district gets an opportunity to express their concerns to industry experts
Lanka Social Ventures with the financial support from OXFAM organised a programme for small and medium handloom entrepreneurs of Batticaloa District on the 21st and 22nd April 2017 at Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Centre.
The aim of the this two day programme was to understand the needs, issues and concerns of the handloom sector particularly for SMEs and to propose measures to address technical and business management issues pertaining to the sector. The two day event included technical sessions on finance, business management and technology, exposure visits and marketing opportunities for the participating handloom SMEs. Representatives from the National Design Centre, National Enterprise Development Authority, and Textile Industry Development, Ministry of Industry & Commerce gave expert inputs and insights to the concerns expressed by the handloom entrepreneurs. The participants also got an opportunity to visit leading handloom sales outlets in Colombo and sell their items at the Colombo Good market at Race course Grounds on Saturday the 22nd of April 2017.
