The Social Enterprise Academy a subsidiary of Lanka Social Ventures launched by conducting a two day programme for the undergraduate students from University of Ruhuna, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship on the 21st and 22nd July 2017. The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship attached to the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organizes annual events for undergraduates to improve their practical skills by interacting with industry experts. Accordingly the department of management and entrepreneurship organized a two-day workshop for 3000 Level second semester undergraduates.. The objective of this workshop was to provide undergraduates with the knowledge and sharing hand-on experience of industry experts' in Social and Green entrepreneurial applications in real world businesses. Introduction to Social Enterprises and responsive entrepreneurs, business idea generation in the field of social and green entrepreneurship, screening and selecting the business ideas, social and Green entrepreneurial applications in real world businesses, emerging trends, developments & opportunities in social and green businesses and introduction to business planning were the themes discussed during day one of the programme. On day two the participants were provided exposure on themes such as how to prepare an effective business plan, funding and support services for social enterprises, implementation of social and green businesses, and experience sharing with a real social entrepreneur. Dr Lalith Welamedage the CEO, Jayananda Dias Madanayake Senior Technical Advisor and Hasanthi Jayasinghe, Business Associate from Lanka Social Ventures, Ravi Galhena and Shiran Karunaratne from Gospel House handicrafts a leading social enterprise joined as resource persons for the programme. Thirty five students from Faculty of Management and Finance of Ruhuna participated in the programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr M.B.F Mafasia from Department of Finance and Entrepreneurship attached to the Faculty of Management and Finance.
